Petatlán: Near Village

Hill of Witches

Cave of Hill of Magicians

This cave is under the Stone House. Years ago a group of firefighters went to explore and found traces of quartz and jade, the background is a large space where they found cave paintings.

Access to the cave is very complicated because with the passage of time has become progressively narrower. The cave is inhabited by bats and some reptiles.


 

Church of Jesus Father Petatlán

In Petatlányou´ll find the church of Jesus Petatlán father, world famous religious center, located in the center of Petatlán Gro. Their presence gives rise to the traditional religious festivals of Easter.

There are three versions of how the patron saint came to this place:

The first version refers to a ship wrecked on the beaches near Petatlán and from among the wreckage was found in a package the figure of Jesus in an episode of his journey to the crucifixion, it was conducted at a modest chapel.

The second version states that a farmer went very early to work his land and on the road suddenly heard a groan, thinking that it was an injured

Only 10 km. The King

Stone figure found in 1944 by,Ms.Virginia Romero González, , in the backyard. Thinking that it was a religious image gave notice to the master of the local school, who explained that it was an archaeological piece,, so they proceeded to dig her out. The piece was broken in half; , with each side measuring 1.5 meters.

This piece represents the central part of youth, old age and death; in the neck is a pectoral representing the Supreme Being. In the abdomen carries a shield representing the jaguar and the ball game, the figure presents like clothes a belt and a loincloth. . Studies done to show that this piece dates from the year 1500 BC.


 

Stone Observatory

It is a stone with 52 holes representing the 52 weeks of the Mexica calendar. They are believed stood in water and this served to observe eclipses and stars.

Stone of Sacrifice

It is currently in St. Peter's Square, in the county seat. This disc represents the god Tlaltecutli, stone, earth Mesoamerican deity. The aforementioned joint is associated with an elongated platform that closes an open space square way, and which changes its direction at right, angles, apparently taking advantage of the terrain where it was found.

Such sacrificial stone was found accidentally by Mr. Luciano Romero González, near the pyramids located in Soledad de Maciel. The Municipal Government, headed at that time by Agapito de la Rosa Galeana recognized the historical and archaeological significance of the pieces, and ordered his transfer to the county seat. Probably this stone was sacrificed to the winners of the ball game.
